Tokom novogodišnje noći, historijska crkva Vondelkerk u Amsterdamu potpuno je zahvaćena požarom, čime je skoro potpuno uništena. Videosnimci očevidaca prikazuju crkvu obavijenu plamenom i gustom dimu.
Vondelkerk, koja se nalazi u blizini Vondelparka i stara je 154 godine, od 1977. godine korištena je za razne događaje, dok je ranije služila kao rimokatolička crkva. Vatrogasci su odmah reagovali, a vlasti su evakuisale desetine obližnjih kuća. Dijelovi tornja i krova su se urušili, zbog čega je oko 90 kuća ostalo bez struje.

Lokalni mediji izvještavaju da je vatra potpuno progutala crkvu, dok vatrogasci još nisu sigurni da li će moći spasiti preostale dijelove objekta. Za sada nema izvještaja o žrtvama, a uzrok požara i dalje se istražuje.
